A special event is the Trekking Festival at the PINTAS Appaloosa Ranch. During the Festival, riders have a chance to participate in tours that last several days and cover a variety of trails.

Starting point for the trekking tours is the PINTAS horse stable. The carefully chosen trips take you through a fascinating piece of land, the Hochpustertal amidst the Dolomites. Our riders spend their days in the purity of nature and enjoy the relaxing effect of the silence and absence of hectic, take rest from their life, refuel their batteries and experience the sameness with nature.

The Trekking Festival is dedicated to the chief Joseph of the Nez Percé Indian tribe. Around the middle of the 19th century, according to the Congress of the United States of America, Chief Joseph and his tribe was supposed to be relocated to an Indian Reservation.

This prospect triggered a dramatic escape of the Indians towards Canada. 800 of the Nez Percé tribe took their belongings and fled from their persecutors, making 2.500 miles in 108 days. This averages 23 miles a day - over hill and dale, and only with their Appaloosa horses.

For both humans and animals this trek meant an enormous effort, almost a supernatural strength, endurance and will to succeed.
Unfortunately for them, the power of the military seemed even greater. The escape failed, the Indians were forced to the reservation and, obviously in an attempt to seek bloody revenge, nearly all horses were killed.

In dedication to the brave Nez Percé and their enduring Appaloosa horses, we hold the annual Trekking Festival at the PINTAS Appaloosa Ranch.
